Call for Panels Day of Sociology 2022

On  June 16, 2022, the 22nd Day of Sociology will take place at the University of Groningen. This year the conference is organized by the Department of Sociology (RUG), the Dutch Sociological Association (NSV) and the Flemish Association for Sociology (VVS). Abram de Swaan will give a keynote speech reflecting on 100 years of Sociology in the Netherlands. A ‘Groningen Night of Sociology’ will be organized together with Sociëtas, the Groningen Sociology study association.

The program will consist of a mix of thematic sessions (organized in three rounds of parallel sessions), a lunch, and a plenary session (this year on 100 years of Sociology in the Netherlands). This is followed by the ceremony for the theses and article awards of the Dutch Sociological Association. During the panel sessions, more than 150 sociologists have the opportunity to present their research and discuss the work of colleagues. The Day of Sociology always ends with drinks.

The Call for Papers will be launched in the first week of February, 2022. In order to allow for more in-depth and focused discussions, it is possible to propose thematic panels up until January 24, 2022. A panel ideally consists of four papers and a session chair, although other formats are possible. Panels can be held in Dutch or in English. We also welcome panels looking back on 100 years of Dutch Sociology or looking ahead to the next 100 years.

One can propose a panel with four predefined papers, but one can also propose a panel that is open for paper submissions via the Call for Papers. If there would be insufficient paper submissions to a panel, the panel could be merged with another panel.

The session proposals should be submitted to by January, 24 2022 at the latest. We appreciate if the proposals has the following information:

  • Title and abstract (max. 300 words) of the session;
  • Name and contact information of the session chair;
  • Max. 4 proposals for papers: name of the author(s), title of the paper, and abstract (max. 300 words).

The session chairs will be informed about the acceptance of their panel prior to the Call for Papers.
